OUR LAST COUNTRY IN EUROPE!!! Pt. 1
With mixed emotions, Camden and I boarded our little propeller plane from Santorini to Barcelona.Santorini had been a living dream. Gorgeous weather, perfect location, not to mention that life changing, mushy gushy romance stuff. hahah. In my mind, anywhere would be hard to compare after where we have been. Camden and I were definitely ready to mix up the European scene and get to Africa, but we had no idea what Spain had to offer. We HAD to check it out and see what all the hype was about. The minute we arrived, I understood. Spain is where it's at!!! Barcelona is a big city, with a relaxed vibe. With perfect weather, palm trees, beautiful people, and the incredible work of Gaudi sprinkled around the city, this place was something else! With my expert navigation skills, I got Camden and I to our hostel after walking for quite some time (up and downhill) with all of our luggage. It's funny to think that just six months prior we had been struggling to walk just a few feet with our huge bags and now we could practically run if we had to! We were changing, mentally and physically, and it showed!Anyways, we finally arrived to our awesome hostel and settled into our new home. I loved this place! The rooms were spacious and modern, the chill out room was AMAZING, there was a human cat tree and a skate ramp. Yes, a skate ramp was inside the hostel. Oh and there was breakfast and dinner offered all the time. So that was cool. The first night we were there, the soccer match between both teams of Madrid were playing each other (for all of you who don't know what this means...it's a HUGE deal). We walked down the block to a recommended tapas bar. For the remainder of the night, we joined the locals screaming and shouting at the screen, while drinking vermouth and scarfing down various tapas. The next morning, we woke up early for....CAN YOU GUESS IT!!?The free walking tour! duh!If you didn't know that by now, you should go back, re read and catch up! Hahaha. We scored an awesome guide who went above and beyond, taking us all over Barcelona and explaining the myths, legends and facts. After our tour, Camden and I walked down to the beach, sat under the sun and eventually fell asleep. We woke up to find that some of our friends (Mike and Tyler) from back home happened to be in Barcelona at the same time as us!! We told them to meet us at the beach and waited! As time passed, there was no sign of our friends and we were getting hungry. Camden went to find a restroom while I soaked up the last few days before heading out to find some lunch. Then I laughed at a joke I heard from a passerby...That joke changed our entire day.The man heard I was laughing at his joke, came by with his Dutch girlfriend and started talking to me. They were super friendly, so I invited them to join me on my blanket while I waited for Camden.Camden was talking FORRREVERRR, so the man offered to buy me a beer from a vendor on the beach. At first I declined but he insisted. I was a bit nervous at that moment, and I'm still not sure why. But I was. Camden was still gone, I had out myself into an interesting situation but all seemed to be fine. So I went with it.Camden came back and looked incredibly confused. By this time, I was laughing with the girlfriend, on my second or third beer, the man was playing volleyball and our lunch plans were off the table. Hahah. As he joined us, Mike and Tyler finally arrived as well!!! Everyone was here and the party began! I explained to all the guys how this all went down and we all agreed to spend the rest of the day together and a band of new friends and explorers. After six hours at the beach, the man, who we learned was Cuban, and his girlfriend, wanted to show us the local side of Barcelona. We all agreed, packed up and hopped on the next bus into the city.We met their friends, went to some of their "secret spots" and talked over drinks. After some time, I began to feel tired. I wondered why, it could only be six, maybe seven at the latest. When I looked at the clock and it read 11:45pm, I couldn't believe my eyes!! Mike, Tyler, Camden and I said goodbye to our new friends and began the hunt for dinner. We found a spot, talked about our crazy day and parted ways.Tomorrow was tourist day, and we had two new partners to experience it with!
