Balkan Adventure Pt. 2: Montenegro
I have to admit, I had no idea where I was going. I've never even heard of the country. But, from popular demand and raving reviews from fellow travelers we hopped on a bus to Kotor, Montenegro. As we twisted and turned along with the road, I could already tell we made a fantastic decision. The lush mountains and the aqua colored water was enough to make me squeal with excitement! I felt like I was on an episode of Lost. IT WAS GORGEOUS!
We had three days in the country and I was determined to make the most of them! It was raining for a majority of our time there, but I didn't care. We wandered around the old city of Kotor; which was quaint and filled with cats. The windy streets lined with palm trees reminded me of home. I looooved it! This eclectic town was so fun to explore. It seemed like there was something new around each corner.
There was a moment of sunshine one of the days, and we ceased the opportunity to hike up to the Fortress of Kotor.
It felt amazing to hike and reconnect with nature. We haven't properly hiked since the Inca Trail and my body was pleading for some nature and physical activity.
We stopped along the way talking pictures, water breaks and soaking up the incredible views!Once we finally made it to the top ,we climbed to the highest point of the fortress and just sat there.
Camden is (or was) afraid of heights and I couldn't believe he was up there with me! I could tell traveling had already changed us, shifted how we saw the world and transformed how we lived life.
Up there on top of that mountain. Things were different, but good different. It's hard to explain but I felt like it was one of those moments where you're like. " I'm on the top of a mountain in Montenegro and I've been away for so long and I'm so small in the world but I feel so big and life is amazing." Haha there's a lot more to it, but that's my nutshell, not so insightful version. HAHAAH.Our last day in Montenegro, we visited the neighboring city, Budva. It was another cute, beachside town with many shops and restaurants. We wandered around, same as Kotor, getting lost in the maze of the city. The sights we found along the way were incredible. If I had forever, I would still be sitting along the cliffside, dangling my feet over the sea, smelling the salty air and feeling the warm sun.
I wish we had more time to spend here, but we will just have to add it to the list of places to come back to!
Oh the beauty of travel. And life.
