San Diego's One-of-a-Kind Festival, KAABOO Del Mar!
If you live in San Diego, and haven't been to KAABOO yet... WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?! KAABOO is San Diego's first "big" music festival, hosted at the iconic, Del Mar Fairgrounds. Typically, when you go to a festival, you're going to the middle of nowhere and dancing to the long list of musicians that are lined up to play. You can generally expect to get dirty, camp out and have fun with friends. Personally, I love festivals. I've been to the "big ones", Stagecoach and Coachella, among smaller sized festivals like Rock the Bells and Reggaefest and each one, although extremely different, generally has the same plan of action... get drinks, head to the stage and dance away. Since KAABOO isn't just a music festival, they have switched up the festival game, offering an all inclusive experience, unlike any other! So when my San Diego Sunshine Sister, Kara and I had to opportunity to go, we jumped on this chance of a lifetime! Now when going to any kind of festival, there is so much to think about. Where are you going to stay? How are you going to get there? And the biggest question of them all...what are you going to wear?!? Thankfully, KAABOO is hosted in San Diego, so staying at home or with friends was the best option. We just had to think about commuting there and back...which wasn't too bad, since we have Uber, Lyft and the occasional friend who owes a favor haha. There are also shuttles to and from the venue from near by hotels, such as L'Auberge Del Mar. But the most asked and most important (in my opinion) is all about that festival fashion... WHAT TO WEAR. There are SO many ways to get the perfect festival outfit, and they don't always have to break the bank to make you look and feel fabulous! Since there are three days of the festival I decided to take on three different ways one can go about getting the festival look that is just for them!! So...LET'S GO SHOPPING! Look 1 : Flourish by Blues and Shoes. This women-owned boutique offers a unique bohemian vibe that specializes in jewelry, handbags, gifts, and vintage inspired dresses and tops. It is LOCAL to San Diego and has been part of the North County community for decades. I found SOO many cute things it was so hard to pick! I actually had to go back and pick out more, because I loved everything I tried on! They offer sizes from XS-L and could easily curate an entire outfit from head to toe, with everything they offer! I decided to wear a flowy and very breathable, white, floral dress with a layered moon and star chocker. The entire look cost $60 and can be found at Flourish! Look 2: Clothe and Arrow. Found in Flower Hill Mall, this boutique is for the babes who like to take the road less traveled - they offers curated looks from various designers like Dazey LA and Buddy Love. You can find cactus adorned yoga mats curated in Arizona to effortless kimonos of Texas, a line that no other boutique currently carries in California, you'll be sure to find your one-of -a-kind outfit at Clothe and Arrow! You can get this look for $160 at this adorable Del Mar , women owned boutique!Look 3: Salvation Army If you didn't know, thrifting is AMAZING! You can get one of a kind, pieces, literally unable to find anywhere else, for a few dollars a piece. Yes, you'll need some time to sort through the racks, some patience and creativity to pair things together to make the ultimate festival outfit, but I promise you, you can 100% find an outfit that is unique to your style with a little effort and a few dollars. Salvation Army is all about "doing the most good" so check out their nation wide location index and find a store near you! Watch my KUSI segment about thrifting a festival look right here! Now that our festival fashion is out of the way, let's get to the FUN and MAGIC that is KAABOO! With a whirlwind weekend of fun, live music, comedy, artwork and amazing food, there are so sooo many highlights so I chose a few that MADE MY LIFE and the rest, well you'll have to just go to KAABOO next year to experience the magic with me!!First and foremost, I was able to spend three whole days of fun with my main girl Kara aka the other half to The San Diego Sunshine Sisters ! We were able to laugh, dance, and be free while roaming the various art installations and soaking up some sun at BASK -the Vegas style pool party- right by the main stage!!My drink of choice was also served all weekend long - the Mango Wheat from Blue Moon!! It's my go to, keeping me "hydrated" and not "too crazy" all weekend long!Alongside my fave drink and favorite person, I was able to live out some childhood dreams this weekend.
- I screamed, and shoutted and let it all out with BLACK EYED PEAS! I have been listening to this crew for as long as I can remember and singing and dancing along with them was incredible.
- I saw LANCE BASS, yes from N'SYNC. My 10 year old self was screaming -- but I actually did scream too haha.
- I got to see One Republic, Mumford and Sons and Kings of Leon - all bands I have on my roadtrip soundtrack. It was an honor to be able to experience them all IRL (in real life).
- DANNY TANNER aka Bob Saget sang on stage with the Revivalists hahha (after his live, stand up act). I was in the front row to see this once in a lifetime showstopper hahaha.
- I got to meet some very talented artists and get some insider fun facts about their inspiration and hidden meanings in their works of art.
- I got to dance the night away at SILENT DISCO (which is so freaking fun). It is the ONLY way to end the first two nights of KAABOO.
Like I said KAABOO was incredible, there were so many lifelong memories that were created this weekend, at San Diego's BIGGEST festival! Be sure to get your tickets for KAABOO 2020 and join in on the fun! I promise, it's something you definitely do not want to miss! See you next year!!
